Chiddingstone Castle is a small independent museum in Kent, England. Amongst its collections are a number of Tibetan exhibits which in the past were displayed in a ‘cabinet of curiosities’ style which reflected the original collector’s eccentricities more than it did the cultural value of the pieces. The Curator is currently addressing this through decolonising the displays, and I was approached to identify Tibetans to be part of a focus group to help with the process. This seminar is a walk-through of this decolonisation exercise.
