Target audience:

This workshop is designed for teaching colleagues who are new to USW or those who require a refresher of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) basics.

Aims: This workshop aims to provide an overview of the VLE, and core digital tools used at USW (known collectively as Unilearn) and will take participants through the essential knowledge needed to get started with Blackboard, Panopto and our assignment tools.


At the end of this session participants will be able to:

• Access their Blackboard Modules and Organisations.

• Add content that is accessible and creates a consistent look and feel for students, in line with the Course and Module Baseline Expectations.

• Identify appropriate assignment tools for formative and summative assessment.

• Access the Blackboard Grade Centre and understand the basics of marking and feedback online.

Indicative content:

• Accessing Blackboard

• Understanding the VLE Course and Module Baseline Expectations.

• Adding structure to Modules and Organisations.

• Adding content and checking digital accessibility using ALLY.

• Overview of Blackboard Collaborate

• Overview of Turnitin and Blackboard Assignment tool.

• Overview of Blackboard tests, blogs, journals, discussion forums, and using Blackboard groups for formative and summative assessments.

• Overview of recording with Panopto on a module.

• Overview of the Blackboard Grade Centre.

Length: 1.5 hours (90 minutes)

For this workshop, the session will be held online and so no equipment will be required apart from a device to access the call
