Building Evidence for Recognition


Whether you are considering making a claim for UKPSF professional recognition, internal or external awards or just want to critically reflect on the impact of your teaching / learning support practice on others, collecting evidence and using it effectively to enhance your practice is a necessary step. CELT is developing a pathway to support your evidence-building journey. In 2021/22 we are offering workshops to set the scene about the evidence needs of internal and external award schemes and support for getting started with STARS claim-making.. There will also be additional opportunities to help you develop enquiry projects.  In June 2022 we are pilotting a one-week Educational Change Intensive course – have a look below to find out more:



Getting Recognition for Your Teaching/Learning Support Innovations and Practices: an Introduction to Internal and External Recognition Schemes

This highly interactive introductory 2-hour online workshop is for colleagues across USW and its Partner Colleges who are interested in seeking recognition for the work they do supporting the USW Student Learning Experience. The workshop will outline the core requirements of external recognition schemes and enable attendees to critique their current / future activities against these. The session will focus explicitly on student engagement and impact evidencing.

Your Teaching/Learning Support as a Focus of Enquiry and Research

Are you curious about the impact your teaching /learning support is having on your learners? Are you wanting to make a change and think it would be good to track the effect of that change? Would you like to share your work with others at conferences  or in publications but aren’t quite sure where to start? This interactive online 1.5-hour workshop is for you!  As a starter session, will share some common research approaches and consider the ethical conundrums facing practitioner researchers. Depending on your needs and timelines and our capacity we will mentor you to start you off and seek to build a community of mentors and buddies over time.

STARS: Planning Your 2022 Submission

It’s never too early to think about putting a submission into the June 2022 STARS awards! Are you working on an innovation and wondering if a STARS award might be possible to share and recognise your work – but don’t know what is involved? Come to this interactive 1.5 hour online workshop and find out! Open to any staff across USW, we will briefly introduce the STARS Enhancement and Excellence pathways and think about the stepping-stones to making a successful claim you could put in place now – or perhaps start on in the future.

Making a STARS Submission

Have you been working on a change or innovation and would like to put together a submission for a STARS Enhancement or Excellence Award? Come to this interactive online 1.5 hour workshop and find out how to capture your great work and get the recognition you deserve through a submission that comes alive! This session is open to anyone across USW interested in making a STARS Enhancement or Excellence Award submission in 2022 – or beyond!

Educational Change Intensive

As you reflect on 2021/22 and start looking ahead to 2022/23, is there something you’d like to change? Would you like to develop a research project to wrap around and explore your change? Might this enquiry project provide evidence and material for conference presentations or publications – a STARS or external recognition award perhaps? If you would like to find out how you can study and explore the impact of your educational change initiatives, this week of 2.5 hour online workshops is for you! Lead by two experienced Educational Researchers, this week will introduce approaches to education practitioners research, ponder ethical conundrums and, through peer supported discussion, start to scope possible projects. Resources enabling we’d hope participants and facilitators will create a supportive community of research buddies offering support and critical eyes as projects develop and run.
