Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognising Prior Learning (RPL) is a process which allows education providers to value knowledge, skills and experience of individuals regardless of where they have been acquired. These competencies may have been formally achieved through an educational institution or obtained informally through the workplace, hobbies or interests. By recognising this learning and experience, individuals can gain academic credit which can be used to enhance their learning journey or career prospects.

RPL offers individuals and businesses the chance to accredit their/their employees learning and experience through an RPL Application process.

A RPL application consists of the following 5 steps:

  1. Expression of interest
  2. Application/Enrolment onto a course/module
  3. RPL application
  4. Submission and assessment
  5. Notification of credit awarded

RPL | Information for Academics

In January 2015, Quaility Assurance Committee (QAC) agreed changes to Section 2.3.10 of the Regulations for Taught Courses, which refers to the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) formerly known as Accreditation of Prior Learning. These changes provide transparency regarding the ways in which RPL can be used within the University; RPL for Admission, RPL for Exemption and RPL for Accreditation.
